When these homeowners in Rochdale got fed up of driving over bumps and potholes in their long sweeping driveway up to their farmhouse, they reached out to Complete Driveway Designs.

Claire, our expert designer, paid them a visit, and we discussed their options to repair, upgrade or transform their drive.

Unsuitable short term driveway repair

The homeowners might have thought that a quick repair job could be done on the broken tarmac and large potholes, but they’d had experience trying to repair them in the past. A patch job is just that. It’s temporary. It quickly wears away again.

They knew they needed to upgrade their old driveway.

Full driveway resurfacing with black tarmac

After speaking with Claire about the pros and cons of a tarmac driveway, the homeowners decided they loved the clean, simple aesthetic of black tarmac, and wanted to get their entire drive resurfaced in time for the summer.

So we set to work excavating the old crumbling drive and making sure the base was suitable for a new layer of tarmac. We added new gulleys and ACO grids to support drainage and used some of the existing feature cobbles to enhance the overall final finish.

Then, we installed the 240 square metres of black tarmac, to a 40mm depth.

It was a long driveway, and the change was dramatic.  The sweeping new tarmac really helps improve the overall approach to the period property (and the house value) and the homeowners were really impressed!
