Sick and tired of an icy, slippery drive in the winter months, these homeowners contacted Complete Driveway & Patio Designs with one clear goal in mind – a great-looking concrete driveway in Huddersfield with unique underfloor heating to prevent frost, ice and snow from settling on it.
We loved the idea and wanted to help in any way we could.
So we visited the homeowners in Huddersfield and set about designing their ideal drive.
Designing around customer requirements
Our customers were clear on their requirements when we sat down with them at their home to plan and draw their new concrete drive. They wanted a visually appealing but highly practical driveway, that would include both lighting and underfloor heating.
We discussed their style, colour and pattern preferences and drew up the designs. The plan was to create a central parking area with the underfloor heating, and two contrasting pathways on either side. This would create an attractive picture frame look, and perfectly complement the style of the house.
With the designs approved, we got to work.
Working alongside the electrician
After excavating the old drive and marking out all the new areas, we began laying the groundwork and base level for the new drive.
Our first task was to install the pathways at either side, with a walkway slate pattern and sandstone buff colour.
When this was complete, the electrician came in to install the lighting while we prepped the main parking area.
Pouring concrete over the underfloor heating system
Once the driveway base was all levelled, the electrician lay out the underfloor heating.
We were then able to use the side paths we’d previously laid to access the main driveway area and pour the final top layer of concrete. This was completed with a textured skin pattern – for a very clean visual look – and a charcoal colour – so it almost looks like a classic tarmac driveway.

Concrete poured, pattern set, colour release done – the finished driveway really does look very sleek and very smart. It matches the look and feel of the house, feel very modern, and most importantly, is extremely practical during the winter months with lights to guide you to the front door and underfloor heating to keep the drive free of frost, ice and snow.
It was a great little project, with 38 m2 of concrete poured in total. Needless to say the finished result – especially when compared with the old driveway and unused grassy areas – was a huge hit with the homeowners!
